Domain name addiction? Can’t stop buying?
I realized it soon. But still I kept purchasing. Ohh no! Not again; I won’t purchase another domain name. But it happened again and again.
It happened one fine evening. I got an idea. An idea that was really fascinating. “Yes! I may make a million bucks, just by making this website, and sitting and watching the site pump in money to my bank account.” What a foolish day dream it was. Did I forget the age old saying “no where there is a free meal”? I don’t know why I purchased a domain name that I didn’t even spend a day developing the site on.
It happened another fine morning. An idea far more exciting and promising than the idea that made me buy the previous domain name. Infact, the idea was so interesting that the previous idea looked petty before this idea. I purchased a new domain for this idea.
Soon I realized, its not as easy to execute that idea. Its not impossible, but it needs much more patience, competence, and hard work than I currently can afford to have. But soon another “great” idea popped in to my mind. Enticing me to buy another domain name. I think there is some spam hub sitting somewhere in everyone’s mind. It just keep spamming the mind with great sounding ideas. But essentially this is stupidity.
Hey! Have you gone through something similar? If yes, re-think, re-evaluate, and resolve not to get in to this. Its an addiction, and can suck in a lot of your money just in exchange of a “great sounding idea”. If no, re-think, re-eveluate, and resolve not to buy a domain name before your site is ready!
Yes! Whether you are new to the buying domains business or an old addict. There are only a few facts to be kept in mind to help you cut down your expenses.
- These days most visitors get to your site from search engines. And if your site has good content, your domain name won’t make much of a difference.
- Do not think that if you don’t take a particular domain now, it won’t be available a few days later. There is a better thing to be worried about. If you do not put your ideas in to a website now, it won’t even be in your mind a few days later. So develop the site now, and you can search for a great domain name for it later.
- Discipline is the secret to success. If you have one idea, and one domain, just work on it, and make it a success. A new idea, which is completely different from your current project, is simply a distraction of your mind. Avoid it. Give yourself completely to a single idea, care for it, nurture it, make it grow, and when its mature and is giving you in return what you expected from it, conceive another idea. This isn’t easy. You need to pay a lot for it in terms of self-discipline. But no success has ever been achieved without paying that price.
- Most importantly, start working on the ideas that made you purchase the domains you purchased.
