McDonalds buys IIT kanpur for 40 Billion USD
Hilarious? Not just that. Forbes has adjudged IIT kanpur as the “worlds number one burger institute”.
Don’t believe me? Here is a snapshot of the official website of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur:
Yes, you are right. IIT kanpur’s site got hacked a few days back.
But who hacked IIT Kanpur’s site?
A few stories floating around on the internet.
- Someone from McDonalds?
- Or some hacker from Pakistan?
- Or some student within the institute?
Could have been a good advertisement strategy for McDonalds, but thats too good to be true. Infact, someone from IIT kanpur should try to hack McDonalds site. That would help popularize IITs and IITians more than McDonalds can popularize itself by hacking an IIT’s site.
Hmm Pakistan! That looks like a better speculation. I have seen a few students from IIT kanpur making pun out of some self proclaimed scholars from Pakistan on some social networking sites like Orkut. And I have seen a lot many Pakistani hackers there too. So thats my wild theory patting on the back of this speculation. But McDonalds? Isn’t that something strange to expect from a Pakistani?
Some student from the institute? Yeah, that must be. The hacker must have got this idea during one of their bhaat sessions at McDonalds. And he went ahead and did it. According to a comment in honeytechblog the site was hacked by a sql injection.
Of course, things got resolved, but it seems the site admin didn’t learn the lesson. So they had to hack the site again. This is how the site looked recently:
Who did it this time?
The hacked page says “Islam is my religion”. And it naturally makes us suspect that some Islamic hacker must have done it. But if I were an “Islamic hacker”, and got an opportunity to have hacked the site of a premier institute of India, instead of addressing the Admin as BigLame, I would have addressed it to all Indians.
My speculation:
The site was repeatedly hacked by some student(s) of the institute. Maybe just with the motive to tell the website administrator that “do something”. But still he couldn’t make it hack proof. So he had to make it clear to him by telling him that the root folder of the site is open for modification by everyone.(CHMOD 777), and if he doesn’t fix it, he will hack the site again.
You have some other story/speculations? Share it plz..
